    First Direct Mortgage Interviews

I heard they were bad but I didnt really believe it till now, in total I have had nearly 3.5 hours of calls with them, the last interview was 2.5hrs long, it was like a police interview with them trying to catch me out it left me exhausted.

Is it just FD that are this anal or other banks interviews the same ?

    thanks

My mortgage application took me about an hour including time for answering my broker questions, filling out some forms and providing evidence. He took care of the rest, had the valuation and offer within 2 weeks. Coventry building society.

Several hours on the phone sounds like a nightmare.

I went through a broker last year, no mortgage interview at all
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

It was for a mortgage, I had not needed a mortgage for years so it was a shock to me the way the mortgage interview went, I thought it would just be more indepth questioning on my out going etc but the interviewer challenged me constantly to justify everything why I wanted the product, the house itself, why I wanted the term I did. I was treated like a kid who couldn't manage his own finances.

              maybe they know you

same thing here it was long and the lady was clearly slightly embarrassed by all the questions she had to ask very polite & pleasant.

                That's MMR that is.

They have to provide evidence for themselves to subsequently provide to the FCA that they've made sure you can afford repayments, and that they've made sure you're not a vulnerable person. If you could in any way have demonstrated that you were High Net Worth, or a Mortgage Professional you could have dispensed with the dross and just told them who you are and what you wanted. Taking this course may be quicker than sitting through the full interview next time...

Think yourself lucky - for every 5 minutes you sat there, I've spent an hour in a workshop arguing the toss over various additional steps which were being put in place. Although, at least I was billing for my time

By law do the advisors have to take that course ?

A variation of it, yes. A good broker will be fully qualified (at least three professional qualifications).

Unfortunately your situation is a good advert for using a good broker; thereby eliminating the need for a pointless, lengthy interview with a lender. As mentioned above, this is pretty much a direct result of MMR, and you're by no means alone.
