Default Overseas contracts / Date of birth

An agency recruiting for roles in Swiss / Germany, have asked me to provide date of birth dueing the application stage. Anyone has any idea why they ask date of birth.. Is there any risk in providing this at the application stage?

Maybe they want to know how old you are?
I can't see any reason to as for it, but I don't see why not. Mine is on my CV anyway.
Different firms like different demographics. Easy filter is on age.

You could ask them why - but it might make them suspicious. Personally I would just tell them - I also have mine on the CV.

If I wanted to steal an ID there would be easier ways of doing - i.e. going through someone's bins, going through a bank/building societies bins

I can see all the lawyers rubbing their hands at the trillions they'll make in age discrimination cases

Not in Switzerland.

They don't have to abide by any EU directive.

I would not of thought there would be any risk. The majority of CVs that come into me have dob on, normally I have to delete this off before submitting to my client's (age discrimination issues).

My current European client asked for mine.

Not a problem, unless you are 18
