Default I need a Cyber Security Contractor with SC clearance

Yes, I know, I know. I am risking the ire of some of you by asking for SC clearance but my client needs someone and they need someone quickly so that person must have SC or DV clearance.

Anyhow, on to the job itself.

In the clients spec, it reads as follows -

Job/Role Purpose:

To monitor, interpret and collate the information generated by cyber monitoring systems to produce actionable reports and provide insight for management into network activity to demonstrate degree of compliance with the RMADS and highlight areas of increased risk.

Key Accountabilities

• Managing output from network security management system
• Monitoring activity on corporate networks for compliance against RMADS
• Identification of external intrusion into corporate networks
• Damage limitation initiation in the event of unauthorised activity identified
• Support the development of the Security Intelligence picture
• Formal reporting of analysis, actions and conclusions

Key Responsibilities

• Tune the network security management system to optimise balance between actionable data and false positive triggers
• Monitor and analyse data produced in security management applications
• Initiate response to positive triggers in accordance with formal procedures
• Produce reports based on output from network security management systems
• Build behavioural models and trends of network activity

The rate is negoatiable but don't worry about us fleecing you because we are on a fixed 5% mark up so you will know what we are charging for you!

If you are interested, drop me a private message with some contact details.

Oh, I suppose location would be good too. If I was to say it was based in Reading / Berkshire and you need clearance, you should be able to extrapolate the rest.

What's the problem? This is one of those roles where informed oversight cannot easily be provided (in fact I'd guess that uncleared people can't get within 100 miles of the source data), and that is catered for within the rules...

You do have to worry about a client that has such a system and an urgent demand for someone competent to monitor it though. Yet another line manager with no concept of BCP then...

Default Forward planning.... sheesh i wish

Guys,

You can sniff and bitch all you like but this is the requirement I have been given and what I have to work to! It is a genuine opportunity for the right person. I know as well as you guys that proper forward planning would allow me to find a candidate and clear them but hey, if they had that much forward notice, it is unlikely they would need to go to market in the first place, and as a pimp, I find what my client requires or someone else will!

You miss the point(s). Well OK, you're an agent...

(a) There's absolutely no problem wanting a pre-cleared person for this role. It's totally in line with the rules and the nature of the work.

(b) There absolutely no problem with you trying to fill an urgent requirement. What we're giggling at is the muppet who got himself in to that position: this is clearly high-impact high-value work, why is there no redundancy in the staffing? OK, you lose someone and they have to be replaced, but you ought to have nominated someone to be able to backfill while you recruit in a rather more controlled manner. These things turn up so often, you have to worry about the overall competency of the average Civil Service middle management.

If this is indeed the AWE role (which I have seen advertised a number of times) then the rate is crap.

If this is a role on DII, then I think you're all being a bit harsh as it will be a new system that they are rolling out and consequently now need staff for.

DII has been in planning and rollout since 2004 (I was on it at the time), so urgent requirements for key players just shouldn't happen - which was my original point. More likely AWE though.

Yes. To be precise, you can only get clearance if you have a govt sponsor at the top of the hiring tree.
