Default Rate increase .....

Need some advice .... I am in a gig at the moment and the client now wants to bring a few more faces onto the gig as the project is behind schedule. Gig supposed to end in 4 weeks but probably wont.

Thing is the new guys are going to be on an extra £30/day more than myself .....for the same job!!

Should I confront and demand parity?

I would - sounds like they're going to want to keep you, so you have a strong position to negotiate from.

No, because they will be on a short (4/w) contract, as opposed to you being on a longer one. Happens all the time.

Not sure about them being hired for 4 weeks only. Its just that client prefers to extend in short term bursts. I was hired for intial 6 weeks, then got extended by 3 months till June.

Project "supposed" to run till at least Aug/Sept .... if all goes to plan .... and at this rate maybe Aug next year if they lucky!

You can give it a go, but remember no two contractors are the same, no two set of circumstances are the same, which means that the rate is a crude nonsensical way of judging the value of a contract. So dont get bitter and twisted if you are told no.

Hang on. Your project is running late, they're bringing in extra resource to catch up and you want more money...?

Not saying it's your fault, but that's how the management will see it...

Urrrrm before you jump the gun
1) Its not MY project. I am assigned to it but delays are due to signoffs for kit etc. If it was mine it would have been done ages ago without all the politics.

2) They have decided to "expand" the project ( i.e do more than what they intially had planned for ).

3) One contractor has already left hence replacing him + getting extra man as well.

So definitely not my fault and if it was i'd happily face the music. All I am saying is that I will have to train the noobs initially on the in and outs yet they would be getting more than I am.

They maybe getting another £30/day but the client may be paying the same. Perhaps the agency is just screwing you over more.

I'd go with this. I reckon the agency is probably taking a smaller cut from the noobs.

Guess a word with the agency is in order perhaps.
