    Client Christmas Party

Earlier this month I was invited to my client's Christmas Party. Would attending this event draw me closer to IR35?

    Cheers

Irrelevant really. You work with them every day...why the hell do you want to socialise with them?

There are posts on here discussing that you cant use the staff canteen in case it brings you into IR35. I would say the Xmas party is a complete "no no". IMHO.

Anything that brings you closer to being seen as an employee of the client should be avoided. So I would suggest that you trun down the offer

Raise an invoice for client meeting, no charge to show good will.

Put the drinks and taxi down as client entertainment

Or insist that you pay your share and get receipts.

I went to a client XMas party a few years ago that was held in a hotel in the middle of nowhere (Murder Mystery type thing with meal and drinks) and the client was providing overnight accomodation there for their staff.

I said I'd go providing that I paid for the hotel room and my share of the evening/drinks. I have reciepts for this and if you do this then I'd argue that it puts you squarely outside IR35 since you are actively demonstrating you do not get emplyee benefits.

Thanks for the info, I guess I'll just have to stick with my own Christmas party

How the hell would going make you a IR35 bunny.

Can;t you just ask for an e-mail asking you to attend as a supplier?
