I've got linkedin set up and come close to using that to get work but I'm either back in contractor or already in one so nothing has come of yet so jobserve is still king. I'm sure in the future other avenues will generate opportunities or me but so far I'm straight back on JS the week before a gig ends.

I'd be looking closer to home rather than blaming jobserve if I was the OP.
I've got a very specialist skillset and I've been offered a role out of pretty much every interview I've done and I've always struggled to get bites from posted roles. Apart from one, all of my roles have been through agents finding me. So on that account, I agree with DaveB's approach.

I do still pay attention and apply on JS, though.

both my recent contracts were from agents contacted me directly.

I might have applied for few 1000s of roles via Jobserve in last few months but apart from couple of tele-interviews nothing else materialised.
Couple of cases agents contacted me a day before actually putting advert in Jobserve.

            .
But let's be clear here, Jobserve isn't the problem.

It's nice to know you did what was suggested to you at the time. Other than that WNLUKS

Do you include your car parking arrangements questionnaire alongside jobserve applications?

It isn't a waste of time (I have had interviews off the back of it) because it is quite easy to keep in top of but I haven't worked through an agent in about three years now.

When you are getting anything over 100 applications for a contract, it is a lottery.
