    Reneging on an accepted extension

Has anyone ever gone back on an offer of an extension after previously accepting it? Normally not really an issue as I only seem to ever get the paperwork on the last day of an existing contract, but current agency is a bit more proactive and I have put out some feelers about a gig closer to home which if offered I would like to take up (less money but home every night which to me is worth more than £sd)
Contracting is like plumbing. You're your own boss until you walk into someone's house and they tell you to take your shoes off.

Have you signed anything? Have to you accepted or indicated you'd accept if you were given the paperwork. The devil is in the details.

Yeah once. Was working on a nightmare project with a bloody good rate but the project was led by an absolute arsehole to work with. Id considered not taking the inevitable extension I knew was coming but during face to face talks with said person, agreed to extend.

However the absolute arsehole made the work environment untenable so I had to give backword on the extension. The upshot was the absolute arsehole went to the agency to terminate immediately with just under 3 weeks of the contract left.

I dont know what happened or how the agency worked this but they talked the arsehole out of it and I just left at the contract end.

In the main, I think you may get a bit of grief even if it's a bit of the old cold shoulder between now and the end of your contract. I cant see many leads \ managers being too happy to have to go to market when they thought you were staying put but hey, that's how it rolls.
