As has been said, I'd do it if I can first see the client (not you, the client) explaining what they are looking for.

There's a reasonably useful coursera course on public speaking if anyone is feeling it.

This would work for marketing, PR and television but not IT I think.

(Sorry Andy, not a personal attack, just an observation of people.)
It would have some advantage with a few developers I've met - you wouldn't be able to smell them

We're just trying to fit in the the stench of bs spouted by most project managers tbh.

Agreed with this, but similar criticisms could be made of CVs and even of interviews. Both favour a disproportionate amount of marketing and sales skills which are often not highly relevant to the candidates core role.

The main issue I would take with video interviews is that they allow all kinds of bias around gender, race, age, disability etc, in a way which a written CV does not. Of course almost all will have face-to-face interview as a second stage, but simply getting to that stage levels the playing field significantly. Even though fairly few British would deliberately discriminate, numerous studies show that most of us harbour biases subconsciously.

...which reminds me of the stories showing that people perceive attractive scientists as more interesting but less able'

So lets say I have Tourettes.

It would mean that I would be discriminated against, because I would be unable to make a Video CV as a result of my disability. Indeed, even offering an option of a Video or written CV would possibly introduce bias into the selection process.

It is suggested we don't put our dates of birth on CVs to avoid ageism bias.

It will be an absolute boon for good looking candidates and another barrier to the rest of us.

Not a welcome development in my book.

Tell us more Andy - what is the benefit over say agreeing a Skype Interview?
(BTW also not a fan at all of video interviews at all)
