I'm on the verge of paying a bill to British Gas despite having transferred to SSE because SSE have transferred the wrong property. I've already paid SSE but British Gas insist on payment and it could take up to 6 weeks to sort out according to SSE

I transferred over to British Gas as part of one of the Martin Lewis collective switches and BG right royally screwed the whole thing up. They started sending me bills for an address in a different part of the country that I've never been associated with. It turns out that their systems can't handle two people with the same name and will automatically assume they are the same person. Took months to sort out while I had panics over identity theft.

They also claimed that they had not breached the DPA because they said my personal information was never shared with this other "me". I said they had breached the DPA because they gave me that person's email address, phone number and full postal address. They kept repeating my details weren't shared so no breach. Never got around to complaining to the Information Commissioner. I ought to really.

You should have contacted the other person warning them that BG have given you their details so they need to be on guard for fraud. Then ask them if they had your details then requested they inform the information commissioner.

Defaults also include missed payments and some companies also take a dim view if you've used payday loans. Sign up to Noddle for free to see your payment history if you're not sure what it is. A missed direct debit because of bank transfer timings or the missus spending £500 without warning isn't going to stop you getting the gig - stop worrying.

Just been told it's all ok and passed the credit check- but now the agent says there is no notice period! Need to think whether I want to pursue this further after jumping through so many hoops.

How often do you personally use a notice period?

How many companies want someone really ill/doesn't want to be there providing services for them?

True - in most instances I try to break free from a contract early in order to start a new role.

No they don't and they can't see if you've used pay day loans at all.

Take the job - Even if you have a notice period they can ditch you if they want.
