I helped close them down - had to be done as part of the Citi credit crunch debacle.

It was interesting as I found it one of the most effective IT operations I had come across - a pleasure to work there. It was difficult to fill the day, things went so smoothly. However I subsequently worked with someone who had been at Egg a few years earlier (pre Citi) and he said it was total chaos.

I read something the other day that said no organisations were succeeding with big data although lots of players (Cloudera, Splunk etc etc) are trousering shed loads of VC cash. So are you making money personally or are your projects delivering anything that justifies all the hype?

Money personally but its worth emphasising what its there for. It collects website visitor information and provides a playback of how the user interacts with the site / page...

Anyone else seeing some stonking rates out there right now? Number of roles is lower than normal but there's a couple that are 20% above norms, been going on for a month or so, different agencies and roles

There are definitely some techs/languages/frameworks that have shot up in demand over the last few months.

I'm seeing both ends of the spectrum advertised. Im seeing some roles with rates so high in my particular specialism that I'm reasonably convinced the roles doesn't exist. At the end of the day, it is the rate you manage to get for one of these if they are not quietly dropped after you apply.

In contrast, I'm also seeing some roles in my specialism being advertised at rock bottom rates which also convinces me clients and \ or agents are taking the piss in the current market.

I'm also seeing an apparent increase in FTC's being advertised. However, I'm not certain whether this is actually an increase of these or, I'm just noticing them more due to fewer contracts catching my eye.

Lots of fake ads out there at the moment. Until someone on these forums gets one of these roles @ the stonking rates & reports back who knows!
