New role - Same agency?

Depends on the type of commission the agent is on. Is he on a percentage? And all such questions ....

Chances are (if it's one of the bigger agencies) that they don't even know that you're with them already

Have you not built a relationship with your agent over the past 3 years that would allow you to have an open conversation with them? Call your contact up and have a chat - get him/her to take you out for a drink to chat through the options - chances are that if you are thinking of leaving that they would rather place you at a new gig, than lose you to another agency. They could then line someone else up to fit in to your current role too - win, win

If it's another pimp within the same agency, all he cares about is his bonus and not that of his colleague even if means a lower turnover for the agency. If the pimp can place you, he will.

You haven't worked through one of the large agencies have you? It's hard to form a relationship with one of them mindless drones.

No agent in his/hers right mind will consider you for a new role unless your current one is coming to an end and there is no chance for renewal - they are already getting income from you. Why would they want put you forward for the new role, only to have to look for replacement for your old one essentially doing double work for the same gain...

Same thing happened to me but it was an agency policy not to allow this to happen (honour amongst thieves and all that).

The other option you have is to go through another agency, if there are other agencies allowed at the end client.

Yes, the silly bastard's would rather you left altogether, earning them zilch commission rather than accept contractors want a new challenge every so often and, having an in situ contract move is far easier for them and client than going through the whole advertise \ shift \ interview process.

I've worked through large and small agencies for years. It's true that some of the wide-boy types are difficult to build relations with, but there are good guys in all companies. It's about finding one, building a good relationship, and working together for the benefit of all. Maybe it's the nature of what I do, being in a very specialist area, or maybe I'm just a nice guy that everyone loves
