Forum: Business / Contracts

For IT contractor companies to discuss business and contract opportunities.

  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: Security Clearance (SC) Q&A Read first before asking questions

Please find below an accumulation of questions that have featured on some of the many reptitive questions about SC. Maybe by putting them in a stickie and adding when we get new ones we can bat some of the drudgery off. I have given canned answers from what I read on the forum but you know how...

LinkedIn’s recent changes – how to make adjustments to your profile to maintain your visibility and make sure your profile and CV are working together. You are probably aware of LinkedIn's recent changes, your profile will have changed already or will be doing so very soon. These changes will...

  3. Sticky Thread Sticky: I just need to get two references ...

Been out now for 3 months - 1 month was moving house and sat on my hole for the last 2. Usual story, Jobserved to death, and now dealing with the cretins. Over the last month, nearly every agency has asked for two references before they will "put me forward". Now I didn't come down in the last...

Hello IT Contractors, I shall be moving to Germany next month and spending 14 months on a contract. I was reading up and apparently I need to fill out a P85 form and let the NHS know that I shall be moving etc? Even though I shall still be maintaining a home here in the UK is there any...

  7. Sticky Thread Sticky: Behaviour in the Professional Forums

I have noticed an increase in squabbling and bickering in the Professional forums of late. I am not amused. I do not care who starts the squabbling. I will finish it by banning all participants. The more persistant the squabbling the longer the ban. Feel free to disagree and correct but...

  1. taking long breaks

Hi, I was wondering what peoples experiences have been if they've tried contracting for say 6 months a year and having 6 months off .. I'm now in my 50s, mortgage paid off, pension (sipp) ok, and currently enough savings to last a year on the bench without having to sell any assets so...

  2. Risk and Reward - 5 years off

So, been contracting a while now (13 years) and 50 this year. Current gig is good with 60% WFH and greenfield work. Little bit of pressure but that's tolerable. However, a blast from the past has emerged in the shape of startup that didn't get started due to the involved parties all being over...

Appreciate there is another post on this subject but it has around 900 replies mentioning several topics so I had to start a new thread. Just want to hear people's current views and experience on this. So I've on the bench since end of Dec 2016 and have built up a healthy war chest. Only...

  4. Can't get mortgage after contract break

I took a 5 month break out to do some volunteering. Because of this, according to Contractor Mortgages, no lenders will lend to me. One will lend after a 6 month unbroken gig, the rest after 10. I'm 1 month into a 6-monther. Has the same happened any of you?

  8. Saturday musings...what would you consider to be your weakness(es)?

We may not be employees, but employers can't help but ask us permie style questions at interview. As a contractor I don't like to consider myself as having weaknesses. When I go to see a medical specialist I'm not expecting them to have any weaknesses. As a contractor I am giving you the benefit of...

Hi all, So I'm benched at the moment and it's painfully clear that there are a couple of holes in my skillset, namely WebAPI and recent Javascript framework experience (I did AngularJS 1.5 a couple of years back). I've done plenty of courses for both WebAPI, WebAPI security and Angular on...
