With 9000 clients alleged clients , you are always gong to have few problems
Hats off to people who bring the issues to the formum but I guess there must be others out there who simply do not have the understanding or can't be bothered to have a moan about the service they are receiving

If someone has to work till 2 am , then there is something obviously wrong

Well, I've been a happy SJD customer for about 18 months - never had any complaints. £95 / month is an expensive pile of cash for doing a bit of paperwork every 3 months, so I get my money's worth. The advice they offer, if you take the trouble to ask, on how to manage your tax affairs is excellent. They've saved me many times what they've cost me, and long may things continue to be like this.

Maybe other accountants will do things just as well, but I'm not going to take the chance to save a couple of hunderd quid per year in my back pocket.

Oh, and they answer my emails and phone messages promptly, and when they have the temerity to take a holiday, there's always someone else I can speak to.

I suspect you will find that a lot of contractor accountants have been a bit swamped lately. The CGT taper relief has caused a number of people to shut down their businesses to make sure they dont lose out.

Thumbs up A satisfied SJD customer.

Not appropriate to share the details here, however I have just had occasion to send Simon an email expressing thanks for my accountant providing service well above and beyond the average...

Indeed, the money and time saved by following advice offered proactively by SJD, compared to the totally passive service I got from my previous accountant, has more than covered the cost of the fees.

Phil.

Default doubts?

first time poster praising sjd when they are taking a bit of flak .. interesting ...and once again raises questions about how sjd maintain their profile on here

I raised the query as to why staff at sjd need to work until 2 am to complete work ...... surely this contravenes various employment laws or perhaps we have a case of outsourcing here ?

Default A warm welcome to our newest poster!

My real name is Phil Clarke, I trade as Sett Valley Consulting, company number 5326267. I moved to SJD in December, following substandard service elsewhere, The occasion was that of my first VAT Inspection last Friday, held at SJD's offices, where my SJD accountant made sense of the previous accountant's car crash VAT records and calculations, successfully steered the inspector towards the better-quality record-keeping (er-hem), and spotted a flaw in their sums that entitled us to a refund. Maybe I am easily impressed, but the fact remains that I WAS impressed.

A lot of this boils down to the individual you actually get to deal with, of course, and maybe I just got lucky with the young lady who was allocated to do my books; who has been unfailingly professional, knowledgeable and proactive. But that is my experience. I have no relationship with SJD other than that of a satisfied customer, its a shame my first post was met with veiled cynicism, but what the hey ...

Phil.

WTF has it got to do with you how they work? If I needed something doing to deadline and my accountant worked until 2am I'd think "good on em". If they're busy/haven't allocated enough time during office hours it's their problem.

You've paid for a service, got the service and the hours they work aren't your business.

I've found them to be more than helpful, accurate with replies and on the ball wrt the current crop of contractor related questions re: P35 SA etc etc.

Have I got enough posts for you?

why did'nt you post that glowing reference when the original poster raised his concerns to how he was being treated by sjd ?

Now that I have raised a point as to why a first time poster 'suddenly' decides to give a glowing tribute , you feel obliged to respond ... which sjd office do you work in then ?
