    Anderson Beckette Limited

Two brothers have been barred from being directors after their firm crashed owing more than £57million to the taxman.

Stephen and Martin Melville were directors of Anderson Beckette Limited.

It was wound up in October 2012 with debts of more than £4.5million, following a petition by HM Revenue & Customs.

Now the taxman claims the Glasgow company – who helped freelance workers avoid paying National Insurance – owes them almost £60million in tax.

Given they were providing payroll solutions - specialising in avoiding NI and according to the report making clients shareholders and paying dividends then it seems to follow that is there is this 60m shortfall then the dividends cannot possibly have been paid from retained profit and are potentially illegal.

So, how much are the clients onb the hook for I wonder.

I would have thought all of it? It's their tax that wasn't paid and would be up to the clients to reclaim it so a double whammy for them?
