Has anyone here used an online pension manager, like Nutmeg, for a private pension? By this I mean contributing funds straight from a ltd company tax free?
I've met two Independent Financial Advisors who manage pensions for ltd...
Updated 23 June 2016 - This got out of date so am doing a bit of rehash. I've added any new ones, taken off some that seem to have disappeared and given a nod to some of the Accountants that are actively giving good advice on the forums but don't seem to have been recommended by posters.
OK so it's not so short any more. This information has been compiled based on experience, and expert advice. In response to the numerous emails and PMs I get concerning the fluid and uncertain environment for working in Belgium, I have tried to summarise the issues and pitfalls,...
This place is going to get swamped very soon, so just to let you all know that you can post about the Public Sector and IR35 changes here:
Public Sector IR35
Any posts regarding PS IR35 will be moved there.
Here is a place for those 101's that people seem to forget/not know.
Try and make the title easily searchable.
This thread is stuff that we have learned over the years. But we expect people using this forum to do their own due dilligence - we point them in the right direction, it's for them...
Posters have been turning up indignant that agencies are demanding extra information from them mid-contract.
To which the answer is: suck it up. The Government has legislated that agencies have to collect information and pass it onto them.

Welcome to the Loans thread.
To date loan arrangements have been discussed in many threads on CUK, regularly appearing in the BN66 thread diluting that thread and losing the concentration of information to those associated only with loans and not with S58 FA2008. Its time that loans had its own...
Hey kids. HMRC have updated their guidance around the Flat Rate Changes. As I'm such a nice chap, I've cut and pasted the relevant sections:
Nothing more than clarification really.
Just be warned that SJD have done a deal with Metrobank for free banking
My current banking costs £63 pa.
In the Ts and Cs any transactions over £10k attract a 0.5% fee. I've looked at my transactions and I would have to pay a lot more then £63
So much for free.
I wish I knew about this forum a few years ago - I am totally new to the forum so apologies if I have got a few things wrong here...
I have been a little passive and assumed my accountants were on the ball with their advice. I have asked multiple questions and am only now realising they may not...
I've been through a good few posts but I am looking for further clarification on the minefield of expenses. My situation - Ltd Company Director (formed in September 2016) and only employee, registered in Liverpool but have a year contract in Birmingham so travel down Sunday/Monday and...
I have an UK VAT registered business and looking to rent some office space within the EU. I have found the space I like and the cost includes VAT.
Since both my company and the landlord company in the EU are VAT registered, should I ask for a zero vat monthly invoice?
I working in the marine/offshore industry, and need to do some courses in order to upgrade my certification, these will set me back several thousand pounds.
The work I do is marine contracting work, I was wondering if anyone knows if it would be allowable to offset the courses against...
I'm posting to see if anyone knows if there is anything more I need to do regarding closing a limited company.
I incorporated a limited company at the start of March 2015, which I never used as the reasons for using it fell through.
As it hasn't had any use, I decided to close it, so I...
I am trying to work out whether its best to remain in Flat Rate system or leave
I think it's obvious to leave, but wanted to check my understanding, particularly of VAT reclaimable on Travel Expenses, which is the bulk of my reclaimable VAT
My accountant fees are fairly minimal at £600...
Hello, I hope you can advise. I'm on a contract undertaking a massive global project and travel to the client site for 3 days/2 nights every week. The client site is about 280 miles away. I've now been travelling to the site more than 2 years and when realised I was going to be there for more than...
As we all now know to qualify to stay on current FRS VAT percentage we have to spend above 2% of turnover on goods per quarter
My question is this :-
Is that 2% of invoiced amount OR 2% of received amount in each quarter
I ask because some times there is a quite a difference in turnover...
The reports are finally published and both recommend and accelerated increase in the state pension age. In short this means if you are 50 or under expect your pension age to go up by at least a year- linky
I've been contracting from last 3 years though my own Limited Company. My spouse has been working as a permanent employee paying higher band tax-rate for one of the IT Consulting companies and is now getting a contract offer from one of the public sector clients (it is outside IR35 as...
A question on writing off part of a loan. A holding company has loaned money to another company and has decided to write off part of the loan. How should this be shown in the books? The directors of the holding company have signed a waiver letter.
Anyone used this outfit, promising 5.25% return in an ISA with instant access? http://isa.cornerstone-cp.com/
Sounds too good to be true
As a contractor, I understand I must invoice my client for mileage at 45p per mile plus 20% VAT. This is normal practice.
What puzzles me and which I can not find any answer or discussion on is that there is a rule which states that VAT should not be charged on VAT. Yet, the 45p per mile includes...
So, got a letter this morning about the flat rate changing, knew it was happening (Though was slightly surprised they managed to be organised enough to send letters out!)
Anyway, the letter says that there is a calculator, Im fairly sure Ill be in the new rate but I'd like to check.
Just switched accountants and for 2017/18 tax year they're suggesting a salary of £8,164 allowing me to take £8,336 in un-taxed dividends. My previous accountant used to recommend I take the full tax free allowance as salary - i.e. £11k for 2016/17.
Just wondered what the difference is and is...
Just curious - what do you think is a fair/reasonable turnaround time after submitting your data?
I started a new contract 5 weeks ago, and the recruitment agency provided a contract with weekly payment terms. It was signed by both parties. I've just received an email on Friday last week from the agency, to say "we are changing all contractors over to monthly invoicing, effective immediately." ...
